Year 6 - 7 Transition

Welcome to our Year 6 to 7 Transition page.

Transition from Year 6 to St. Matthew’s

We update this page regularly and share lots of information for both parents/carers and pupils. We are pleased to have received so many applications and now looking forward to receiving your acceptance of your child's place.  Please ensure that you return your acceptance via email to intake2023@smrchs.com It is important whether you accept or decline that we are informed.

At St Matthew’s RC High School, we recognise that starting a new school is an exciting but challenging time for both pupils and parents. Therefore, to help ensure pupils transition smoothly, we work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure they are fully prepared to begin their journey through St. Matthew’s. All new Year 7 students will be given a free blazer, tie and a £35 gift voucher towards other uniform. Please click on the link on the right hand side of the page.

Please click on the link on this page to see our Transition Roadmap which will enable you to see the journey from Year 6 to September 2023.

Our Year 6 transition activities begin in the Summer Term:

All pupils will be invited to a transition meeting with their parents.  Dates TBC further detail will be shared via email.

All pupils will be invited to a transition day at St. Matthew’s, where they will take part in lessons, meet their form tutor, their peers and experience the high school classroom environment. Friday 7th July further detail will be shared via email.

Pupils with individual needs will be offered a range of extra activities depending upon their particular need. These may include; additional visits to St. Matthew’s and individual meetings with parents/carers, relevant professionals (including the SENDco) and primary school staff.

There will be activities for pupils to complete from May onwards in preparation for September. Pupils need to complete and submit each of the activities to achieve their SMRCHS Learner Bronze Award.

Our transition team are dedicated to ensuring both pupils and parents have direct contact to us. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us at school: email: contact@smrchs.com  or speak directly to Mrs Walsh (Assistant Headteacher) on 0161 681 6178.
